Juventus down Inter away

Inter 1 - Juventus 2
MILANO - Juventus remained at the top of Serie A and piled even more misery on Claudio Ranieri’s Inter with a win at the San in front of 75.000 spectators. Mirko Vucinic put the Bianconeri in front in the 12th minute, but Maicon levelled for the hosts in the 28th minute. Claudio Marchisio restored Juve’s advantage in the 33rd minute and he was unlucky not to earn a penalty just before half-time.

2006 Scudetto stays with Inter

Inter were confirmed as 2006 Serie A champions after Italy’s football federation (FIGC) said it did not have the authority to revoke the decision which stripped Juventus of the title.
Juventus had called for the scudetto (title) to be revoked following allegations of involvement by Inter in the “calciopoli” corruption scandal.
The Turin team won the scudetto in 2004/05 and 2005/06 but were stripped of the titles for their involvement in the scandal and demoted to Serie B, with the latter championship handed to Inter.
“The federal council (executive committee) has turned down Juventus’ petition regarding the 2006 scudetto with a declaration that it is not competent to revoke it,” said the FIGC in a statement.

Juve to claim back 2006 scudetto

Juventus vowed to fight to recover the 2006 Serie A soccer title after the Italian Soccer Federation (FIGC) said it should stay in the hands of rivals Inter.
In Italian soccer’s 2006 match-fixing scandal Inter were awarded the scudetto after Juventus were stripped of it, together with the 2005 title, and relegated to Serie B over attempts to arrange compliant referees for some teams’ matches.
The FIGC said it was not competent in the matter since it was not an organ of sporting justice. Juve Chairman Andrea Agnelli said the Turin giants will pursue a battle for “equality of treatment” and may also claim damages on the basis of wiretaps which they say implicate their rivals in the scandal too.
Juve are expected to take the first step in September, presenting an appeal to the Italian Olympic Committee’s High Court of Justice.

Gasperini takes over at Inter

Inter have chosen former Genoa boss Gianpiero Gasperini as their new coach. Gasperini, 53, will replace Leonardo, who is expected to become general manager of his former club Paris Saint-Germain.
The Serie A giants were ill-prepared for the situation as Brazilian Leonardo, who only took over in December, had indicated he would stay on after leading them to victory in the Italian Cup. Before opting for Gasperini, they failed to lure Sinisa Mihajlovic from his job at Fiorentina and were knocked back by former Chile and Argentina boss Marcelo Bielsa. The three-time European champions said Gasperini will sign a two-year contract after some bureaucratic formalities have been taken care of.
